Opera School Welcomes Jacqueline Coats to Direct Great Opera Moments

Jacqueline studied theatre at the University of Idaho Victoria University of Wellington and Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School.  She has a strong interest in opera and has worked as a director, at the NZ International Festival of the Arts, NZ Opera, Victorian Opera (Melbourne), Sirius Opera, Opera Hawke’s Bay, NIMBY Opera, Wanderlust Opera, Opera Otago and Cuba Dupa in Wellington. In 2014, she was ‘Director of the Year’ at the Dunedin Theatre Awards for her premiere of Anthony Richie’s This Other Eden, and in 2015, Jacqueline directed a condensed version of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville as part of NZ Opera’s ‘Opera in Schools’ programme.  This was followed by highly successful productions of The Elixir of Love and Don Pasquale, and a revival of The Barber of Seville last year.

As part of her position as the Stage Craft Director with this year’s NZ Opera School, Jacqueline will also be directing the 26th Great Opera Moments at the Royal Wanganui Opera House.
